Avoca, PA (October 8, 2020) – Carl R. Beardsley, Jr. Executive Director, announced that AVP has teamed up with 139FIRE for five days of Intensive Firefighter training, on October 11-15, 2020 at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

For the 17th year, AVP offers this course to our Airport employees and other regional Airports, as well as our area Volunteer Fire Companies that will be called to assist at the Airport in case of an aircraft emergency.

Eric McKitish, AVP Director – Marketing & Communications, said, “In addition to being used to continually educate our own ARFF Personnel, this course gives AVP an opportunity to allow our mutual aid fire personnel to work with our ARFF staff on an actual Aircraft simulator.”

“This unit actually burns and the fire personnel work in an active fire environment,” McKitish continued.  “They also receive very intense classroom instruction.”

Participants this year include representatives from:

  • Greater Binghamton Airport (NY)
  • Reading Regional Airport (PA)
  • Sullivan County Airport (NY)
  • Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (PA)
  • Williamsport Regional Airport (PA)
