Avoca, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is gearing for a big weekend on August 12th and 13th when the Northeastern Pennsylvania Air Show takes to the skies!

The U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo Team, along with the world famous U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, and the U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet Demo Team will be among the many performers scheduled to fly over the weekend.

On August 11th, 12th and 13th, when some of the jet teams perform, the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 476) between Wyoming Valley (Exit 115) and Clarks Summit (Exit 131) will be closed to help ensure safety during the flyovers.  Area roadways will be busy and all area travelers are encouraged to give themselves extra time.

In addition, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport will not close for passenger flights – all scheduled flights will remain in place throughout the Air Show.

“Response to the show has been amazing. Our ticket sales have been brisk and we expect a big weekend for the return of the Air Show to our airport.” – Carl R. Beardsley, Jr., C.M, Airport Executive Director

Beardsley noted that the PA Turnpike closing schedule will occur on Friday, August 11 from 12:15 PM to 1:45 PM; Saturday, August 12, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM; and Sunday, August 13, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

Gates for the Air Show will open Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 AM.  Free parking will be available and children five and under will be admitted free. Preferred parking is available for a nominal fee.

Major sponsors include the Lackawanna County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Visit Luzerne County, Cumulus Radio and Entercom Radio.  Tickets can be purchased online at NEPAirshow.com or can be purchased at any ShurSave supermarket.
