Airport and Community to Aid TEAM AVP Federal Employees Impacted by Government Shutdown

Avoca, PA (January 17, 2019) – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) is stepping up for employees affected by the partial shutdown of the Federal Government. Team AVP is sponsoring a donation drive to assist employees of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who work at AVP.

“The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Team AVP are pleased to be able to assist our approximately100 Team AVP Federal Employees who have been working under difficult circumstances to ensure safe and secure travel,” stated Carl R. Beardsley, AVP Executive Director. “We appreciate the support from all Airport and Tenant Employees, as well as individuals and businesses in our regional community.”

Team AVP will begin accepting donations today beginning at 10:00 AM.  Items can be dropped off in specially marked bins labeled “Team AVP Helping Team AVP” inside each of the terminal main doorways.

Acceptable donations include:

  • Canned goods (soups, stew, chili, chicken, tuna, salmon, spam, vegetables, broths)
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Crackers
  • Fruit (canned or dried)
  • Granola Bars
  • Applesauce
  • Meals in a Box (Hamburger Helper, Mac & Cheese, etc.)
  • Instant Mashed Potatoes
  • Paper Products
  • Nuts
  • Peanut Butter
  • Rice/Quinoa
  • Cereal
  • Lunch Box Items
  • Toiletry Items (Soap, Toothpaste, Shampoo, etc.)
  • Diapers (Newborn through 4T)
  • Baby Wipes
  • Baby Formula
  • Beverages (Soda, Water, Iced Tea, etc.)
  • Pet Food/Supplies
  • Cleaning/Laundry Supplies

All items must be unopened. No other items (cash, gift cards, clothing, frozen/perishable items, etc.) will be accepted.

Federal employees will be notified through their respective agencies as to the times and location where donations can be picked up.
