United’s New Service Between AVP and Washington, DC Begins Today

united-embraer145

Avoca, PA (October 4, 2018) – Effective today (October 4, 2018(, United Express now offers Northeastern Pennsylvania travelers daily service between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and United’s hub at Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD).

United Express now offers up to two nonstop, round-trip flights daily between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Washington-Dulles using a 50-seat regional jet aircraft. United, together with United Express®, operates approximately 225 daily flights out of Dulles.

“This is big news for everyone in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley, Chairman, Bi-County Airport Board. “Many of our business people and casual travelers drive back and forth regularly between here and Washington, DC.  Now, it will be so convenient to hop on a plane from AVP and get to our nation’s capital in less than half the time. The benefits it will bring to Northeastern Pennsylvanian travelers will be great.”

United operates 195 daily flights to 74 airports across the United States from IAD, including frequent daily service to top business travel markets in Newark/New York, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles. United also operates 30 daily nonstop flights to 30 international destinations from IAD, including Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.

Carl Beardsley, AVP Executive Director, said that discussions with United, and many other airlines, about expanded air service from AVP have been on-going for months. “We are really excited to have United Express provide this service to our area business and leisure air travelers,” he noted.  “The new Washington-Dulles service will complement United’s existing service at AVP as customer demand continues to grow. We are also planning other announcements in the future, too.”

Beardsley was quick to point out that Washington, DC is an important destination for many Northeastern Pennsylvania travelers and the connections to other major national and international destinations adds to the convenience for current and future travelers.  “This new destination opens up many more travel doors for our customers,” he said.

In addition to the Washington-Dulles service, United Express will add a third daily flight between AVP and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) effective today.  United Express will offer up to five nonstop round-trips daily from AVP.

Over the past several months, AVP began daily round-trip service to Pittsburgh and added additional daily flights to Charlotte, Chicago, and Philadelphia.  The addition of Washington, DC flights puts the Airport as the only facility within 100 miles of AVP offering such air service to the nation’s capital.
